Kristen Ma The Entrepreneur
Exceptional entrepreneur Kristen Ma of Pure + Simple runs 4 stores of holistic spa natural beauty products. She was named ACCE Most Innovative Award Winner in 2009. Kristen studied the art and science of Ayurvedic Holistic Health and Beauty from within. She even travelled as far as Australia to work in elite spas and learn the intricacies of the effect of climate and ethnicity on skin conditions. Kristen now runs 4 stores, an e-commerce store, a wholesale operation, and wrote an outstandingly informative book Beauty: Pure + Simple.
You may have seen her on Fashion Magazine, Flare, NOW magazine, Glow, The Toronto Star, Sweet Spot and Wish Magazine, Shop 411, Toronto Shops and as the facial consultant for make-over show Diva on a Dime. Err…did I leave anything out?
Kristen the entrepreneur began her search for natural products initially to battle her skin problems: the bane of youths, chronic acne. Of course, such a long and protracted journey taking her across the globe and learning from many experts about healthy skin care. The typical prescribed skin care regime hurts. Kristen found Ayurvedic Holistic methods to be the one that is most expressive of her desire for natural skin care.
What Emotions Ultimately Formed Pure + Simple
That wonderful knowledge made Kristen want to give humanity the same healthful way of reclaiming not just skin but holistic health. It’s giving back. She talks about being a woman and understanding the wanting and desires for beauty of every woman. But doing it safely and healthfully is her primary concern. She began her new venture with her mum, Jean Eng.
Empowering with holistic methods en route to beauty is what she wants to educate. Kristen writes a blog called http://holisticvanity.com and has her wonderful book which is a holistic guide to natural beauty called “Beauty: Pure + Simple” which is available in Canada and USA. The Challenges and Obstacles
Kristen has some advice for new or would be entrepreneurs.
* Accept that you will fail many times. It’s a fact of the entrepreneurial life.
* Learn to pick yourself up.
* Growth is a huge challenge.
Pure + Simple grew from one store to four very quickly. Now, these are all in swanky areas of Toronto, Canada. There were necessary challenges to overcome like training, store efficiency, etc. There was the e-commerce t expand into, writing her book, the product range to optimize with and even a wholesale operation.
* Letting Go.
She came to rely on people like the store managers. Trust became important. The daily functions of the stores became the domain for the store managers otherwise there would not be enough hours in the day. And she has limited energy. Letting go has allowed her to become far more efficient and allowed her to do more.
* Personal Growth
This is a maturity. As the stores’ needs grow so does she. Doing what’s best for the business also requires she listens to the expectations of clients. In an effort to go green for example, Pure + Simple does not use box packaging. The bottles are glass with a return use policy. Glass is a healthier option for your product and is also reusable and recyclable.
* Take Care of Your Health
Life as an entrepreneur is challenging on your time, energy and health. Learn to manage this aspect of your life so that your health and well being remains intact. Kristen tells of the time during her first four or five years that she was in constant exhaustion and burnout was a real threat to her success. Energy becomes depleted to the detriment of creativity and productivity.
