Mood Swings

You know it by your own heady uncontrollable feelings often followed or started by very strong emotions. These mood swings are usually mean the one experiencing it is going from a positive or “normal” mood into one that is strongly negative. And yet, there are people like me who have experienced it going from negative to extreme positive. And really, when it happens, it’s such a rush!

What Causes Mood Swings?

I have witnessed mood swings in people and even myself. For having lived and being it, one will hardly admit to such an upheaval of ups and downs. We call these changes of emotional states mood swings due to lack of sleep, fatigue, hunger, lack of attention, lack of love, being unfulfilled in a relationship, etc.  So mood swings do have many faces. I call them excuses.

You see, mood swings is really a mask or excuse to explain our bad temper or behavior, etc. When we are unable to express our true desires, we suppress our emotions, we become unhappy.  When we are unhappy, not only our mind is unhappy, so is our body, our memories of our past come into our participation.  It’s like making a mountain out of a mole hill. Triggers are sent out from our mind, thoughts, beliefs, brain, body and body cells. These are based on our past experiences, past blue prints, our frustration, dissatisfaction and anger through our moods. You can see if left unfettered we are at the mercy of our mood swings.

Dealing With Mood Swings.

It sounds daunting at first to try to deal with what you think you know as terrible emotions that drive you. But you are not helpless. It just feels that way. What you don’t see but others do is often the very first sign that all is not lost. You can be helped. Just remember that it’s your determination that will begin your road to be happily free of this thing called mood swings. Here are little steps that can help you out.

To change our mood swings:

1) Recognize that you and I are not the mood swings, but rather it is a developed habit, tuned to our character. Since it’s a habit, you can develop a counter habit.

2) Change our unpleasant or unwanted habits.  Changing our thought blue print is changing the course of our life in the direction of our choice. This comes with continued practice. Thoughts are the first drivers of change. Do this often enough and deliberately, a new habit is formed.

3) Choose what you want to be now. What do you want to think about? Write them in a notebook and carry it with you to read over and over again. It’s really like making a set of goals that will simply let these moods fall away. The choices we make, that make us happy, satisfied, fulfilled, feel good NOW, not based on the past beliefs, dogmas can be liberating. And how much relief you will have when you can feel the great, fun and happy moods again. Then these unwanted mood swings will eventually fade away.
