People are creatures of habit. And too often you will come across someone who’s habit of criticism reigns supreme. Well, actually they do run in all aspects of our lives. And what was really odd today was that critical personalities were certainly the theme for my day.

Critics, Critics Everywhere

Criticise

Today was a highly charged day (just like most of my days). But it was certainly most interesting. The day began like this.
Someone on the phone gave me a tirade of unfathomable criticisms. In fact, the colourful language was almost amusing because I really had no clue what it was all about. After calming her down, I asked her where had she heard such a thing? Oh, she got a very critical note and she assumed it was from me. “But dear”, I said, “the last time we met was over a month ago…” Heard on the other line, “Oh, s*** and click.”

At a network marketing speach, a network marketer from a company other than the hosting company ‘cornered’ me and offered me a better ‘opportunity’ by criticising vehemently this host company. He must have been a little too loud after I tried to excuse myself and attend to my friend’s request. A very stern voice from a security guard demanded he leave immediately. Thanks for the rescue my friend.

At an afternoon business meeting, someone was most vehemently criticising everyone and everything within ear shot. Ow, that hurts the ears. In fact sensitive types vacated the premises. The business offering was most certainly dead even before it began. Pretty soon I’m sure, all that person could have heard were the echoes.

Dream Stealers

I bring this apparently negative issue up because of a very important message that had impacted me and many people before me. You see, these critisms only really serve as “dream stealers”. We’ve all heard of them and will experience them in our lives eventually. Perhaps we, ourselves may have been guilty of it at one time or another.

Dream stealers are people who oppose something, or anything they feel will make them lose a certain control and therefore must put a halt to it. Here are some examples.

a) Recall a stern family member who may have always been a pain in the derriere demanding you stop that proposed new business endeavour?

b) They make a total nuisance of themselves by spreading negative messages about you to all and sundry.

c) A truly critical accountant who kept telling you why your projections into profit never work. Projections should be made with losses in mind.

d) Over a hundred “Nos” before hearing the golden “Yes”. Exhaustion and mental critism may stirke.

e) Most common these days are those people who hide behind a computer screen and criticise others with baseless opinions.

From many experiences, I remember literally oozing negativity and almost wanting to quit from good solid and well run businesses after particularly negative episodes with these people. Everyday I still have people who really need a pick me up because so and so near to them had tried to stop their dreams. They got into a massive open exchange.

Don’t Let Anyone Steal Your Dreams

Folk, don’t ever let anyone steal your dreams. You see, dreams are what will be made into reality. Without fertile minds, no new Ferraris would have ever been made to grace our roads. Imagine if you’re still carrying a clock the size of your head around to tell time. We’d still be floating on water and drifting on the oceans helplessly in wooden skiffs. So, what’s an atom without an electron microscope? You get my point.

It is the dream you have that turned on the many failed light bulbs of history. We can make our lives better. There is no need to ever be the slave of another. Or succumb to the whims of a jealous dreamless person.

Their ilk are the dream stealers. People, don’t you let anyone steal your precious jewels of your future and that of mankind. Their main weapon is criticism.

But, there is always an etremely bright side to the critic. You see;

a) They can become your negative reinforcer. This will help you make up your mind to drive ever harder to achieve that dream.

b) Some critism may be of the constructive kind. Only you will know by how you feel about your dreams. If they are correct, you have the opportunity to redirect your energy into creating your dream into a much stronger foundation and thank that person.

There, now. This is a blog for the critics and their criticism. Or perhaps friends who are offering me a new, better direction to take.
