The moment you are making things happen, you have taken on the role of leadership. Anyone who make things happen regardless of how or what other people or other events try to get in their way, are leaders of the world they create. Congratulate yourself because you have suddenly catapulted yourself into the very few elite. Researchers say there are less than 20% of the population who belong here. But results have come in over and over again that as the going gets tougher, the numbers get fewer. In the world the truly elite leaders number only a small handful per million people. But, you can get there if you will it so.

Making The Decisions For Things To Happen

That says it all. It’s one thing to make decisions like a general commanding an army to move. But move in what direction? Is it time to advance or retreat or hold? History is full of stories about battles whose commander was bogged down with indecision and caused the loss of the war. Dig deeper and you’ll find that these commanders could not independently create ideas and take the leadership during times of extreme duress and emergency. Their bosses were the decision makers, for the good or total failure of enterprise.

Then let’s find the decision makers. Who are they? History points to presidents of countries and great victorious generals. But I consider those stories hyped up and overblown. No, the true leaders are the very ones who make things move right on the front lines of where the action is. A chief of general staff can order his lesser generals or a company president orders the Vice Presidents to make things work. It is usually up to the VPs and front- line generals to make the necessary steps and plans for actual action and present it to the top man and then inspire all and sundry to be motivated enough to carry out the orders. But once in a while, you will find the very best of the Chiefs right on the battle front as the ultimate director and inspiration. They actually come up with their plan of action to win.

What Leaders Do

As already mentioned, true leaders are rare. But there must be a profile of a leader stated somewhere. Yes, there are and I’ve read about many, known a few and still learning about the many throughout history. Here are 3 things that I have learnt about them as they have been defined most often by writers and readers’ opinions.

1) Inspirational
They cultivate and exude an aura of truth for the betterment of mankind. They demonstrate the willingness and ability to accomplish what they ask of others to follow or do. They inspire that others may be so motivated to do what is asked of them. There are the insidious ones who lead to war and the death of many like Hitler. There are the great beneficial few who lead by example of thought and peace like Mandela or Ghandi.

2) Marketing Experts
Like Steve Jobs they say. He creates ideas and implements a culture within the organization that empowers the employees and executives to become the promoters of the product and the company. In fact, the product, the company and the advertising have become the business itself. They have become simply, Apple – the company so well loved by the consumers they consider themselves ‘cool’ to be a part of Apple.

3) Great Teachers of Their Philosophies
They are the creators of long lasting philosophies. Even from ancient times, their ideas are still being touted and often modelled today. Think Socrates, Pythagoras, Confucius, Lau Tzu, and the list go on.

What Does Not Stop Leaders

The fear of making the wrong decisions never stops a true leader. It’s the conviction that the right intention of doing the right things that will always be the beginnings of leadership. However, very few people will continue to build on their ideals. And they, the few who do so regardless of obstacles, are the true leaders. You see, they consider obstacles as a detour to better and more powerful ideas.

8 Examples Of What Won’t Stop a Leader :

1) You will always be looking for better and more effective ideas to implement. That often means swallowing pride for some, but the practice of being humble to others. Even the new office delivery boy can teach you something.

2) You’re prepared to fall on your face again and again but you get up, dust yourself off and decide to get stronger.

3) There will be ridicule to face, but you go on. That is the true knowing of being right in your endeavours.

4) Dream stealers from all around you and then some will be there to waste your time and energy. You decide to convince them by proving them wrong.

5) Problems of growth will come about in any organisation. Changes and growth are opportunities to do things better and faster. Therefore obstacles are always opportunities to greater efficiency.

6) Sometimes you will be stepping on toes you might not intend. At other times, very nasty and powerful groups may want to stop your progress. Things could go from the simple business challenge to direct physical opposition to death threats. But of course, you soldier on and garner more public support as you do.

7) Success can become the bane of leaders. The lure of the easy life and complacency or even arrogance can destroy what was built in very short order. Competitors and other jealous types could take advantage of your largess and win what was once your victory. Never let success stop you from going to greater heights. Success is used as the reason for even greater things to accomplish.

8) Fear will not stop them. You’ll also find true leaders as they are the very ones who will do what no one else will take on for fear or some other reason. They are like the visionaries who see the opportunities where others see nonsense.
