“If I don’t maximise my day and my performance, I feel guilty. Then I go and do it to my satisfaction before I rest by doing something else I love that I can go at maximum again.” Talk to an over achiever and you may be shocked by the response. Does this guy ever stop and smell the roses? Talk to him some more and you’ll realise something that will shame you…it shamed me. He is smelling the roses with everything he does, because he only does the things he enjoys. This is not sacrifice.
Over Achiever or Achieving What He Wants?

Maximum Always
What most people will consider an over achiever who never seems to rest, is someone who appears to be working ALL the time. Their behaviour appears to be someone who is frighteningly on the go all day, all week, all month, all year and every waking minute. But we should all take a much closer look. You will understand that the experience of this person is that of sheer joy.
Yes, he’s going fast and hard all the time. But to him that may not be fast enough. Compare the apparent incredible speed of a Formula 1 car driver in warm-up mode and an untrained driver on the same track. He’s a comparative speed demon to an amateur but still going slowly! That super fast guy becomes incomprehensible at full qualifying race speed. And success is the fastest time of all the racers on that qualifying period. You see, these guys actually enjoy driving like demons to us, but are angels to their sponsors.
That’s what happens in daily life when we encounter who we would consider someone who is so extremely focussed on his or her direction for success. The performance of a super achieving multi-billionaire for example will appear to be many times more effective than most people because in whatever they want to accomplish, they seem to move at the speed of thought expertly. Everyone else seems to be comparatively floundering and faltering. No wonder we wonder if they be gods!
Maximise Your Expertise
Sounds impossible? How can anyone already an expert in their field do it any better? Anyone can always do better than their abilities now. That’s why we call some people over achievers. They keep breaking new ground! There are more ‘experts’ than there are people who constantly maximise their efforts. That is how those people who rise to the top keep rising to become champions.
The happiest champions are the ones who are having more and more fun out of their performance. Once in a while, a super champion arises like Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumaker in Formula 1 racing. Their love is to be the best and then best themselves again. You watch their driving performances and it gives every spectator that sense that they are watching the best of the best with ultimate excitement. You always get the feeling they give it their all and then they will actually discover a way to eke out a tiny bit more. That is their brilliance.
Another trait of being the very best is in the ability of staying at maximum all of the time. This is not to say they will not be at their best occasionally. It is the heart of a champion who will always give it the best try possible at any situation. That is why you will observe the abilities of over achievers doing so many things at such a high level. Why is that?
Always Learning
The best of the best always try and they learn and they perform at their best with what they have learnt. They hire coaches. They gather with experts in their field – like golf for example, and give themselves over to being taught. They are constantly learning.
Now, to be such a great student means one understands the value of being coachable. This also gives one the conclusion that they are very humble at heart. The best and most accomplished people must have been and are respectful of their teachers. They must always have mentors because as I had already pointed out, in such a high performance world, they are constantly striving to better themselves.
One last reminder. It goes to show that the very highest of super or over achievers are constantly trying out new things. They must be truly adventurous at heart. They have no time to curl up on a couch and feel sorry for themselves because of whatever reason. They do not fail. They just do whatever they are creating a slightly different way. Remember they have coaches and mentors. Remember they are humble and know to and love to learn and develop themselves all the time.
