Try Laughing Yoga when you’ve been feeling let down by the world. There’s something about the very experience of laughing in the midst of a stressful life that uplifts the spirit. Caution: this may not be for everyone, as those people who are determined to remain angry or depressed need never try.

Rollicking Laughter Yoga Session

I happened to attend some classes on Laughing Yoga. At first, like most people I carried with me a healthy dose of scepticism. How can anyone force oneself to laugh? But in merely preparing to attend such a class, I was already mildly amused at myself. I sorely needed a change of atmosphere. I was tired from the stress of building up my enterprises. For a change, I wanted someone else to perk up my spirits.

I won’t go into the whole class events but I’d like to make some interesting highlights. Of course, as in any Yoga class, there are the usual breathing exercises and some stretching ones to limber up the body, mind and spirit connection. Then we were taught to think of certain important things like stress and to laugh the all off. The greater the stressor, the better and the harder we subject ourselves to the use of laughter.

AT first, everything felt a little contrived. But as the use of all our laughter mechanisms are being used more and more vigorously, stress did melt away. Before long this laughter energy got easier and lighter. The group started giggling spontaneously. Laughter for any suggested purpose became easy and supportive. We laughed the whole hour and some minutes away. Endorphines were probably being released en-mass because by the end of the session, we were all feeling quite elated.

You should have seen and felt the energy of people when they left the class. They, we were all on the high side. We were even taught to use the laughter exercise to form our manifestations of our desires.

Laughter Is A Good Cure For Negativity And Stress

The students walking in at first were in large part, like I mentioned, quite sceptical. But most were simply feeling stressed out from work. Others were simply unhappy about something or other. There were very few smiles. They were tired.

But it was very gratifying to see that all left with a smile and chirpier voices. Their air of positivity ruled. I noticed their gait up the long flight of stairs appeared spritely despite the more than an hour of a fairly rigorous workout.

The complaints of being stressed at work were of course dealt with by explaining to them that if you really want to laugh, one should intend that in the class. It worked and they were all into the laughter exercises.

Is Laughter Yoga helpful?

By all means, yes. It does put people at ease and the idea is simple. The modality is effective. In fact, you can go home and practice it daily to uplift your spirits. I find it most useful. Laughter really is the best medicine.

As a group, I find the laughter energy builds upon itself. You all know the cliché that goes, ”Laugh and the whole world laughs with you.” What a transformation.
