Garry began his story at the ACCE Forum by telling us that it was an open opportunity that he recognised. He was working for an American company at the time. One could say he decided to make it a business when he took that decision knowing he could grow a company on his own.
“I can do more of what I am capable of…it’s almost 10 years in the making now.” You can see that he is visibly proud of his achievement to date. And so should he. The company’s growth under his leadership has been significant. It’s an entrepreneurial success story.
Control My Own Destiny
“…to control my own destiny…” was his prime driving emotion to start Global EMC Inc. more than 10 years ago. And in speaking with him, this is still very much his passion.
Garry goes on to reminisce the past when he knew that financial security was lacking working for a corporation. When times were good, things went well. However, during the downturns the oft lamented layoff is the result.
Garry was a graduate of Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. He had a good job, but striking out on his own became his calling. It was this driving need, a search for one self that drove him on.
Recognising A Small And New Company
Recognition was an overriding concern for Garry as is typical for all entrepreneurs. And like all entrepreneurs, encountered and overcome tremendous challenges. There were most difficult of times, personally and he must meet them and grow bigger than the challenges.
The very nature of Global EMC has a reach that’s basically global. Garry must have had to overcome the barriers of being a virtual unknown. Credibility was a huge but difficult step. And bear in mind, there were many nationalities to get through and the relationship building was a great effort to overcome.
Recognition for a small and relatively unknown company was difficult, but diligently attending industry shows and being available to speak with prospective clients and offer great personal service has obviously paid off.
Recognition from the ACCE is one such payoff as this gives more recognition that this is a serious contender in this industry.

Garry’s work ethic has greatly expanded the business since inception, but he has also remained loyal to his employees as they have to him. He has actually done some significant things for his employees’ welfare. It’s a significant step to maintaining employee loyalty and productivity.
Garry Lee does not believe in keeping his company all to himself. And firmly believes in the well being of the employees and building their trust. A plan is under way that will include the employee and corporate ownership of their brand new building. It’s a newly built 23,000 sq. ft. building. This is very long term thinking that has brought Global EMC Inc. this far. That bodes well for their future.
In fact, the very first impression for me as I first met Garry was that his company floor is more of a big kid’s playground. Work, play and wellbeing seemed to have been seamlessly combines. There were games everywhere with a pool table, a foosball table and even a mini motorcycle…
The Successful Entrepreneur Advice
Garry offers a piece of final advice for new entrepreneurs about their personal development to achieve their dreams. Remember folks, take this to heart.
“All entrepreneurs must have Drive!” There will be things and events that will always get in the way. These are not really obstacles but something you must overcome so that your business becomes far more competitive. Things will thus become discouraging in the beginning. So, tough it out. That entrepreneurial drive will see you through it.
