Business helped in his personal development. Perseverance is learnt and developed as you do the business. “The #1 ingredient of a successful entrepreneur is perseverance” – Steve Jobs. This quote is a favourite of Stephen Chan, founder of Dapasoft Inc. Entrepreneurships can come at a price. Be prepared for the failures and the success.
Thanks to Mr. Stephen Chan for this video interview.
Entrepreneur’s Opportunity
Stephen Chan made Information Technology his life and experienced great success. Entrepreneurs always look for that one great opportunity and sometimes it comes from unexpected sources. Be mindful and watchful for your desires can bear fruit. But you must be ready to do what it takes to harvest it. This is being an entrepreneur.
It was a long journey growing up in Hong Kong, then graduating from the University of Waterloo and developing Dapasoft Inc. the company it is today. In 1977 opportunity came when a friend invited him to a project which he had to create a company which was Dapasoft’s beginning.
Stephen dares to venture and say Dapasoft Inc. is likely the very best in Canada in their area of expertise because of the edge they have developed. This is most certainly backed up by the diverse areas in which Dapasoft has ventured into in software development and management. Think Health Care IT, recycling metals, state of the art long term health care facilities among their projects. Their competitive advantage is developed to create a global branding.
Another of Dapasoft’s advantage is the software team he is obviously extremely proud of. In fact Stephen belaboured the point that he never needs to worry about anything that needs designing or development. There is always the expertise and the commitment of someone who will do it. What a great attitude to have already in his organisation, and most certainly a unique advantage.
Mr. Stephen Chan is the ACCE winner of the Most Innovative Award for 2011 and the founder of Dapasoft Inc. It makes me wonder about the quality of the masterminds he must have being on the board of directors of the York Technology Alliance and the CEO Fusion Center.
Accepting Challenges With Perseverance

Stephen Chan Interview With Rebecca At Dapasoft Inc HQ
The big entrepreneurial challenge when one is starting out is recognition. But today, although it had taken much perseverance to get to where he is today, he is proud to say that Dapasoft is a globally branded company in their field of expertise.
Personal changes in experience and the adaptability to the challenges is a necessity for the entrepreneurial life. The business teaches you personal development, not the other way around. How one succeeds and runs a business is not about intelligence but that of determined perseverance in what you are doing. We get down to the mental toughness of the individual.
You’ll need to learn to deal customers, governments, rules and regulations, the banks, and just about everything else the leader of a corporations needs to learn to do and do exceptionally well to achieve extreme success. This is about perseverance.
Only Human
Stephen’s achievements seem almost superhuman to come so far in a relatively short time. And does he have any regrets? If there is one, it is that he feels his achievements have overshadowed his family life, which he intends to give his attention to. It seems this superhuman is disarmingly human after all.
“My focus on the business has caused me to lose my balance in personal life. It’s not an easy life or trip for new entrepreneurs. But one gets a lot of learning about freedom, life and growth.” is Stephen Chan’s advice for new entrepreneurs.
Advice to New Entrepreneurs
“Be Ready” is his short answer. Be prepared. It is not an easy journey. There are changes and challenges which would be entrepreneurs have not envisioned. Understand, be prepared financially and mentally for what you’re getting into.
To the readers, this is given as sage advice based on his raw experience on being an entrepreneur. Take it to heart. When young you can take chances Stephen says, but be prepared for the failures as well as the success (this is key).
